‘Rubber Duck’ by Dutch artist Florentijn Hofman is a huge 54 foot tall, yellow inflatable duck that has made appearances at many harbours and coastlines around the world, including Sydney and Sao Paulo.
I was worried when I found out that on the 15th May, Rubber Duck was found deflated, completely flat like a bright yellow pancake, just a week after arriving in Hong Kong.
I am happy to say that as of yesterday, Rubber Duck can be seen, in it’s former inflated glory, in Hong Kong’s Victoria Harbour until 9th June.
Hofman’s website describes Rubber Duck with the following statement:
“The Rubber Duck knows no frontiers, it doesn’t discriminate people and doesn’t have a political connotation. The friendly, floating Rubber Duck has healing properties: it can relieve mondial tensions as well as define them. The rubber duck is soft, friendly and suitable for all ages!”
