The last few days have seen worldwide (but mainly spanish speaking) celebrations to The Virgen del Carmen, an invocation of the Virgin Mary.
The Virgen del Carmen is Spain’s patron saint of the sea, the Spanish Navy and Army of the Andes (led by General Jose de San Martin to Argentine & Chilean independence) among many others.
Celebrations begin a few days before a day of festivities on the 16th of July, and conclude a few days after. They include fireworks, boat processions, bright colours and lots of dancing.
Here is a collection of photos from Virgen del Carmen Festivals taking place across Spain, Argentina and Peru to name a few.
